This camp is perfectly situated to take advantage of the plains game and predator concentrations of the Busanga Plains, being situated as it is within close proximity to permanent water and having easy access to a mix of seasonal and permanent floodplains. Shumba is named after a favourite species in the area - prides of lion sometimes up to 20 strong! Viewing of species like puku, lechwe and hippo is possible for much of the day from the comfort of your tent or the main deck, while the camp's fig trees ensure both shade and constant bird activity in the canopy above

NOTE: Shumba Camp is closed seasonally between December and April each year.

The Camp         
Shumba Camp comprises six spacious luxury safari tents on raised platforms with spectacular views of the surrounding plains. The rooms are large, en-suite with both indoor and outdoor showers. The dining and bar area is elevated so as to take in this vista and each morning's sunrise; dinner takes place either here or in the cosy boma where guests can also enjoy elements of local Zambian culture. Many meals are prepared and cooked on the fire in front of the guests enhancing the safari experience.

A maximum of 12 guests can be accommodated at any one time and great emphasis has been placed on the "guided" experience - being led by qualified, enthusiastic people with in-depth knowledge of the area and its wildlife. Guests have the option of game drives in and around the Plains and night drives provide the added excitement of the nocturnal wonders of the area.

How to get to us. Your light aircraft charter leaves from Lusaka International Airport. A lodge representative will meet you here at a pre arranged time and will look after you from here, all you need to do as arrive at the airport at a pre-arranged time.
Recommendations Luggage is limited to 20 kg (44 lbs) per person including hand luggage and camera equipment.
Guests using Wilderness Air seat rates on their itinerary and who want excess luggage transferred with them or are over the excess passenger weight 100 kg (220 lbs), have to purchase an extra seat in the aircraft. This "seat in plane" allows for a maximum of 70 kg
(154 lbs) excess weight, on the proviso that the bag(s) conforms to the dimensions 40 x 40 x 80 cms (16 x 16 x 31 inches); soft bag i.e. no wheels/frame/rigid structures; able to physically fit onto a light aircraft seat; able to be physically secured with one seatbelt;
will not impact on the comfort of other guests on the flight. Extra cost: Charged at 50% of the applicable seat rate of that route, nett.
High / Low Seasons Service is only available between June and November.

Tresso Travel is a small travel operator located in Johannesburg, South Africa. Graham Green is the co/owner and manager and will be your point of contact at all times.

The owners of this lodge/camp have a policy that the general public are not able to book directly with them, and thus have to book through an agent. As such, we have placed ourselves in this capacity to give you the opportunity to book directly through us for the services of this lodge/camp.

Tresso Travel has a great relationship with the owners here and will offer you the best services possible in this regard.

We also specialise in setting up Safari packages around Southern Africa, and are heavily involved with wildlife conservation which gives you the opportunity to become involved in wildlife conservation as a mere supporter or as a hands on assistant in some cases.

Terms & Conditions

Between Tresso Travel (Schaefer Green Trading CC ) and the Client.

- Once a booking has been confirmed to us, we will change the booking’s status from “provisional” to “confirmed” on condition that you have paid the non-refundable deposit of 30%.
- Full payment is due eight weeks prior to arrival date, after which our cancellation fees escalate in accordance with our cancellation policy.

Cancellations are only effective on receipt of written notification.
- If cancellation is prior to 8 weeks before departure your deposit is forfeited.
- If your cancellation is made after the due date for full payment of your tour fare,
charges will be levied.

The scale of charges, expressed as a percentage of the tour prices, is as follows:
- More than 8 weeks notice ~ Deposit forfeited.
- Less than 8 weeks notice ~ 55%.
- Less than 4 weeks notice ~ 70%
- Less than 3 weeks notice ~ 80%.
- Less than 2 weeks notice ~ 100%.
Should you fail to join a safari or join it after departure or leave it prior to its completion, no safari fare refund can be made.

After your booking has been confirmed, should you wish to change to an earlier departure date, you may do so subject to availability by paying a transfer fee of US$25. Normal cancellation fees apply if you wish to postpone your departure.

Please ensure that you are aware of our booking conditions. Taking this journey with us implies your acceptance of these conditions.
Prior to confirming the booking, each guest must take out comprehensive travel, medical, cancellation, curtailment and default insurance for the duration of their trip.
Due to the remote areas in which we operate, it is vital that all guests are covered for emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances. We will not be held responsible for any guest travelling without insurance.
The relevant cancellation policy applies should the guest fail to join or start their safari/journey for any reason, including airline delays or missed connections. Please ensure adequate travel insurance is in place for this eventuality.
Due to the logistics of travelling on a safari to remote areas, we strongly recommend that all guests read the literature provided. Should there be any further queries, please feel free to contact your journey specialist.
