Taita Falcon Lodge

Taita Falcon Lodge is stunningly perched 200 m above the Zambezi on the edge of the Batoka Gorge. Close enough to the Victoria Falls and Livingstone to enjoy all that the region has to offer, yet remote enough to enjoy a truly bush atmosphere and the relaxation the natural environment provides. The atmosphere at Taita Falcon is relaxed and clients’ stay with us can be at as fast or slow a pace as individually needed.Taita Falcon Lodge has undergone complete renovation over the last years. This has seen a new spacious chalet design incorporated, each with its own private garden and outdoor shower.

The Lodge and the Charlets
The chalets are extremely spacious and airy allowing for the cool breezes that blow up from the gorge to keep things cool year round. Each is well set apart from the other affording privacy and peace and quiet! Each chalet can be adapted to either a twin or double bedded room, with additional beds being added to some of the rooms to accommodate families.
All beds have large walk in mosquito nets, and hot water bottles are used in the winter months.
The natural environment and surroundings blend throughout the Lodge grounds. All natural materials are used and the majority of the furnishings have been made in the local village by local craftsmen.
The gardens around the pool and central living area are a colourful blend of indigenous plants and flowers and attract wonderful birdlife throughout the year.

Under the stars
Meals at Taita Falcon are sumptuous and varied and special dietary requirements are easily catered for. We serve meals either in the open sided dining area, on the viewing deck under umbrellas or under the stars, in the boma, or private dinners can be arranged in the client’s private gardens for special occasions. Clients are invited to either join a main table or feel free to have their own private table.
-  Breakfast is served throughout the morning allowing for the well deserved sleep in! A selection of fresh fruits, pastries and yoghurt provides the “starter” to the individually prepared cooked breakfast.
-  Lunch is either taken as a picnic if clients are “out and about” or served from the bar menu at the Lodge.
-  Dinner is a 3 course affair with light and dark meats being served each evening along with a selection of vegetables and salads.

Taita Falcon Lodge is a birder’s paradise with a resident pair of Vereaux Eagle and Peregrine Falcons, Augur Buzzard, Snake, Fish and Hawk Eagles regularly being sighted. The rare Taita Falcon also makes an appearance for the “lucky ones”! Guided bush and bird walks are done around the Lodge and gorge and various hiking trails range from 1 hour to 4 days.
Livingstone and Victoria Falls offers a vast range of activities - all of which can be arranged by Taita Falcon and the lodge offers transfers between these activities.

How to get to us. AIRPORT TRANSFER
Taita Falcon Lodge provides collection and drop-off transfers from either Livingstone airport or train stations or from Victoria Falls or Livingstone towns.

The lodge is approximately 30 minutes drive from Livingstone and is well signposted from the main Livingstone / Victoria Falls road, 1 km before the Victoria Falls border. Access by road requires a "high clearance" vehicle

Accessing the area is straightforward. You can fly directly into Livingstone Airport from Johannesburg, Maun, Lusaka, Harare and other regional centres.

Alternatively, scheduled and charter airlines fly into Livingstone Airport or Victoria Falls Airport (over the boarder in Zimbabwe) so note that additional transfer charges apply and you'll need Zimbabwean visas for most nationalities.

If you would like assistance on these matters, including rates and specials, please contact us and we'll be happy to assist.
Recommendations VISAS
For all nationalities that pay visas - they pay USD 50 single entry and USD 80 double entry. They will need a double entry if they want to go out and come back into Zambia (even for the day). These two visas are available at the port of entry. We were told the multiple entry visas have to be acquired in advance.

As of 1st October 2011, all travellers from Zambia will be required to show proof of Yellow Fever vaccination (unless in possession of a valid waiver certificate). Travellers transiting airports in countries with risk of yellow fever transmission will be required to show proof of yellow fever vaccination, regardless of the amount of time spent at the airport. South Africa will exercise the following measures to all travellers from yellow fever risk countries who are unable to produce a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at the port of entry:
• refuse entry; or
• quarantine until their certificate becomes valid, or for a period of not more than six days; or
• those with an exemption certificate due to medical reasons will be allowed entry and required to report any fever or other symptoms to the health authorities and be placed under surveillance.
