Lukula Selous, in the southern sector of this vast reserve, is a private photographic sanctuary of over 300,000 acres. The sanctuary's diverse habitats - flood plains, dense riverine forests, savanna, forested hills, rocky ridges - host an equally diverse range of flora and fauna. This is a landscape seldom visited and little changed by man. Each season exposes yet another dimension of Lukula Selous' breadth and beauty as the rhythms of nature dictate our experience. You will have a rare chance to watch the drama of the life cycle unfold in an atmosphere of utter privacy and freedom. Imagine 300,000 acres reserved for no more than eight individuals. This privilege is possible here - where the spirit of wild Africa lives on.

Lukula Selous experiences the cyclical rainfall pattern typical of the East Africa region. The ebb and flow between wet and dry cycles is characterised by two primary periods of rain each year. The 'short' rains usually arrive in December and fade quickly with the arrival of January. The 'long' rains commence in mid to late February and persist through early April. With each arrival of the rains, the land is energised. It washes the exhausted land of the dust and ash of the dry season, and fills the sandy riverbeds with sparkling fresh water. The small streams feed the main channel of the Luwego River and wake it from its seasonal lethargy. As the river rises, it floods the nearby plains and fills dried wallows. Then, vegetation greens, births occur and lives pass. It is as if one is watching it all through a time-lapse camera.

Lukula Selous is an experience not a destination. It is a unique work of art, never the same twice, and never predetermined. There is no detailed itinerary - or at least none that we know of â€" it is about impromptu experience. It is designed to change a life. About Great Plains and Conservation Tourism
The story of Great Plains Conservation... What brought this all about? Over the past decades we have agonisingly witnessed how much of the world's majestic and symbolic wildlife, parks and wildernesses have come under increasing threat despite all the conservation efforts to protect them. These species and their habitats are being poached, hunted, developed, mined, polluted, used and abused at an alarming rate. Today, often as a result of expanding population pressure, these rare places are valued less, not more; protected less, not more. In order to secure a future for the planet's last remaining wildernesses, these threats must stop; and alternative, bold, sustainable conservation models must be created - those that integrate communities, Government and the private sector.

Five individuals in their 50s pooled their wide ranging skills and experience to create innovative, world-class conservation projects in a number of diverse and threatened habitats throughout Africa, the Indian Ocean and eventually in India. The world's citizens must make a choice - "where to from here?" We believe there can only be one goal - saving some of the last great, iconic, and wild places of the world.

This is the mission: to find the right formula between conservation, communities and commerce. Great Plains Conservation's model takes stressed and threatened environments, surrounds them with compassionate protection and intelligent management.

Great Plains Conservation is an initiative to help curb this downward spiral of our threatened natural world by being proactive today, and by applying what we know best. This is the development of a sound conservation model, which is sustainably funded by a blend of sensitive, low volume, low impact tourism, frequently coupled with the sale of carbon credits and in some cases with the sale of a small number of villas or bush-homes. Together, these private sector initiatives create the capital needed to help fund the overall conservation initiatives. Our primary ambition is to create of a number of flagship, or "gold standard" conservation programs in areas that previously have been deemed unsalvageable. Our hope is that these conservation initiatives will become successful, sustainable and inspire others around the world to replicate the model.

You may ask then, "What is the difference between Great Plains Conservation and other companies which promulgate ecotourism?" Most ecotourism companies are primarily travel companies that sometimes carry out conservation initiatives to help sustain their ecotourism operations. In contrast, Great Plains Conservation is foremost a conservation organisation, which operates ecotourism to maintain conservation as a sustainable land use alternative. In short, in order for conservation to be that preferred land use, there must be an economic driver, which provides reliable benefits for surrounding rural communities and government.

Terms & Conditions

Between Lukulo Selouse ( Great Plains Conservation ) and the booking Client.

These Terms & Conditions will automatically be in force from the time a Client sends an Enquiry to a Service Provider.

Terms & Conditions below will only be applicable, between the Service Provider and the Client, when a Service Provider is asking for payments in advance. Payment on arrival will not follow the procedures below.

Message Box
Messages sent between a Client and a Service Provider will be recorded and printable on We encourage all Clients and Service Providers to use this Message service. When you like to communicate any changes in your plan or make a cancellation of your tour, please make it in the Message Box. If you have missed a deadline, use the Message Box, there might still be a solution to the problem. We also recommend the Client to use the message service, when updating the Service Provider about payments. The message service is a fast way to communicate as it instantly triggers an alert mail on the other side.

The Cancellation Fee for a paid or partly paid booking, can be quite high. Clients are therefore encouraged to get a travel insurance, which covers the Cancellations Fees.

Reservation Time, the number of days a reservation is valid, without a confirmation payment.
Payment Plan, when the confirmation payment is done, the Reservation Time expires and the Cancellation Policy will be in force.
Service Accepted, when the service has been accepted on the offer form provided by
Service Date, the planned date for the service to be delivered to the Client.

2.1 Reservations Time
The time your Service Provider will keep your reservation alive, without any confirmation payment.
- 30 days of reservation, when the service is accepted more than 121 days before Service date.
- 21 days of reservation, when the service is accepted between 91 days and 120 days before service date.
- 14 days of reservation, when the service is accepted between 61 days and 90 days, before the service date.
- 7 days of reservation, when the service is accepted 60 days or less, before the service date.

Please Note.
Please, let us know as soon as possible, if your accepted booking does not work all the way. Best way of doing this is to send a message to us from your Service Account, which will be recorded.

2.2 Payment Plan
Within the Reservation Time, a Confirmation Payment must be done. Once the confirmation payment is done the Payment Plan will apply together with the Cancellation Policy.
- 20 % of the total booking value, is payable within 7 days. This payment will be a confirmation of the reservation.
- 50 % of the total booking value, is payable before 120 days
- 100 % of the total booking value, is payable by latest 90 days remains to the Service Date.

Date of Payment
Date of payment is the same date as the Client instruct the Bank to make a transfer, or the date for faxing the Authorization Form with all attached copies of Passports and Credit Card.
As it may take a few days before the Service Provider will be able to confirm the Clients bank Transfer, the Client is advised to use the Message Box and give all the payments details to the Service Provider.

Full Payment and BankCharges
It is a common standard in the Safari industry, that full payments has to be made before the Final Confirmation of the booking can be made. Bank transfer of payments normally carries bank charges. The Client has to make sure, these charges does not reduce the full payments.

To be on the safe side, it is recommendable that full payment is made to the Service Provider from the start.

Remember the Cancellation Policy will be in force from that moment when the Client has confirmed the booking with a confirmation payment ( or deposit ).
All cancellations has to be made in writing ( use the Message Box , as you will have it on record later on ).

Insurance Coverage
The Cancellation Fee for a paid or partly paid booking, can be quite high. Clients are therefore encouraged to get a travel insurance, which covers the Cancellations Fees.

3.1 Cancellations Fees
Written cancellations made;
- 61 days or more before the Service Date, carries a cancellation fee of 20 % of the booking value ( the confirmation payment ).
- 31 – 60 days before Service date, carries a cancellation fee of 50 % of the booking value.
- 30 days or less before Service date, carries a cancellation fee of 100 % of the booking value.

Bank charges
When a refund is made to the Client, it carries bank charges. The refunded balance will be deducted with the bank charges.

Africa.Rec AB and with it´s affiliated domain names, only facilitates communication and contacts between Service Providers and Client. Africa.Rec AB and with affiliated domain names, will not accept any responsibility, for any payment or dispute, between the above Service Provider ( and its booking agent ) and the Client.
